I was in IIT-KGP from 1997-2001, and the situation was exactly like what you described. I did become friends (and very good at that) with most of my seniors, and juniors whom I ragged. However, I am convinced that it had nothing to do with ragging. There are way much better ways of mutual interaction. As an example, courtship for instance, does not involve ragging! In short, BDSM of this kind sucks. Very nice article. I was in IIT-KGP from 1997-2001, and the situation was exactly like what you described.
