I have gone to college in many western countries, actually none of them have this ragging curse...! No matter how we advance as a nation untill our behavior and midset changes to match that of other advanced countries, we cannot call ourselves truly advanced !! that is the sad truth...and guys like Manav - the above comment writer are holding the country back by centuries, hope gorillas like Manav go extinct soon !! I was in IIT-KGP from 1997-2001, and the situation was exactly like what you described. I did become friends (and very good at that) with most of my seniors, and juniors whom I ragged. However, I am convinced that it had nothing to do with ragging. There are way much better ways of mutual interaction. As an example, courtship for instance, does not involve ragging! In short, BDSM of this kind sucks. Very nice article. I was in IIT-KGP from 1997-2001, and the situation was exactly like what you described.
